#timeToRest&Recover statt #timeToPlay at the moment 🙁

...DNF @ UTMB2017 😪🤔🤕
A week is gone by and with a little bit of distance from the race and a visit at the pulmonologist, it was a good decision to withdraw from the race; although I should have done it earlier on.... the first 31 km to Les Contamines were easy going and trouble free. After the aid station, my body was shaking cause of the cold and I needed a 1/4 of an hour to get back to "normal"... but then there was simply no power (actually air) left and things went south...
However the wet and cold weather and a bit of snow when crossing the Col du Bonhomme was actually fun!(?)! ...down to the Lac Combal I was helping a fellow runner who crashed on the downhill badly and had some head and hand injuries (please, get out of the straps of your poles on the downhill!!!)... eventually I made it to Courmayeur; actually not much slower than in 2016. But up to Bertone I was simply empty, no energy left; at the Refuge Bonatti I made a break for about an hour to warm up and get some tee / hot chocolate in and hoped that my wheezing and stertorous breathing would get better... in the end I climbed the Col de Ferret with Volker and somehow made it to Champex-Lac... there, Silke convinced me that it would make sense to call it a day. So glad she did that! In hindsight I should have stopped in Courmayeur; but occasionally it takes a brain some 90km to accept that this is not the day.🤔
Now I know why there was no power (actually air) left: diagnosis at the time being: spastic obstructive bronchitis and a lungs capacity of less than 50% (than normal)!
That sucks! ..but at least I know now why and this means some break and recovery for me...
...and then find some new adventures(and finish undone business anyway)😜

BTW: at the Like Te Wind party on sunday, there was a nice little poster saying:
DNF:
Do not fear
As you will return
Stronger
Do not forget
All accomplished and
A Life transformed
Remember you
Did not fail

...soLong and Cheers!

BTW2: Kate: thanks for the awesome drawing!

it seems like not so long ago, but actually a year has gone by and departure to CHX is approaching fast! last year, I was just happy to stand at the start line, healthy enough to give it a try ( after having fractured my left clavicula three-times during a bike crash ). This year, the plate and some six screws are still "in me", but the training was/is (ok, the taper sort of started) more continuous this year and moreover, I even had the chance to run the race course some six weeks ago in a three day "vacation"... really looking forward to be at the stat line this year.
There is definitely a big list of awesome runners that will charge hard from the beginning and some that will try to hold back and survive in good shape at least until Courmayeur. Although I made it into the "Elite"-List due to my ITRA-points, I consider myself not as one of the runners that has to do anything with the actual race going on. I will try to run my own race and will give it my best. Definitely crossing the finish line is a big target for me (UTMB is one of the few Hardrock qualifiers!); moreover, a solid sub30hrs is hopefully doable. A sub24hrs only if all stars align and some other miracles will happen ;-)
anyway, really looking forward to find myself fit and healthy at the start line in Chamonix on the 1st of September 2017...

...after a dissapointing DNS (did not start) at the GGUT (Großglockner Ultra Trail) due to a stomach bug, I had the chance to run instead of volunteer at the Chiemgauer 100 Miles. Actually the plan was to run the 100k, but after the 100 Miles breefing I thought I might simply start running that day instead of sleeping little and start at 5 AM the next day. So lucky that the organisation allowed for that "upgrade" and off I went....
some 22:51 hrs later, crossing the finish line as first overall was pretty awesome! sometimes its better not to plan too much ;-)
....and now concentrate on the prep for UTMB.... (and somehow find the time to write the reports of UTMB2016  up to Chiemgauer100Miles2017!)
...once again thanks to all the volunteers, crews, the organisation team and all the other runners for that wonderful weekend out in the Chiemgauer Mountains! Congrats to all the other finishers, especiallyAnke for her 100 Miles victory,  Armin for his 100k victory, Torsten for his 100 Miles finish #1 (there will be more to come!), and simply to all who crossed their finish lines.
See you soon out on the trails again!

...took me a while to find the time to copy the content of my old homepage into the new one. Unfortunately, there has been some issues with the old provider (to quite some extend our fault as well!); anyway, needed to find and copy/paste the homepage content from a "wayback machine"... at least it wasn't completely lost..

And now I will try to catch up with what has happened inbetween then and now.

First , there was an interesting UTMB; start was on the day I was allowed to lift my arm up again after fracturing my left clavicula 3 times... I wasn't expecting a good run; not even really a finish cause of the missing time of training. And yes, it is a 170km race through the mountains with quite some vert.
Second , Silke and I had the chance (vacation) to explore Scotland by travelling around in a VW Bus... and participate in the Glen Coe Skyline race (fusing mountain running and alpinism). In short: it was such an awesome experience and there is definitely a good chance we'll be back there sooner or later.
Third ,  the 2016 season came to an end and there is simply a big big THANK YOU to all my sponsors and supporters who are giving me the chance to do what I love to do! ...and luckily enough, there will be another season (2017!) where I will get the chance to explore wonderful places on my own two feet using a pair of Salomon shoes ;-)

...ok, after these posts (following hopefully very soon) there will be a report about my reasonable go at the MIUT2017, then some words about my DNF at the EGT2017 (second DNF in a row there ;-( ), then a little bit about a short race of "only" 25k (Zugspitz Basetrail) and some words about my third go at the LUT2017.

...some words to write and some pictures to share ;-)
soLong and happyTrails in the meantime!
